Discover The Answers To The Most Commonly Asked Questions

The following are common questions asked of IOM America. If the stated answers do not fulfill your questions, please feel free to submit a new question.

What does the abbreviation "IOM" stand for?

"IOM" within IOM America stands for the "Institute Of Ministry."

How and why was IOM America formed?

Back when Dr. Phinney (the founder) was active in politics, he was consistently in "trouble" with government officials regarding his conservative Christian views while serving as President of Arizona Alliance Community Faith-Based Action - a four-time appointed position by the Arizona Governor's Office.  While in a Washington DC meeting with the Director of Labor (friend of Dr. Phinney), he was advised to open a non-profit that would represent his conservative Christian worldview.  Following that advise, IOM America was established (2001)!  The Institute Of Ministry was abbreviated to IOM in order to gain access into places that typically would be offended by conservative Christian titles.

Why is the founder seem to be obsessed about identity in Christ?

Dr. Phinney's first mentor was a man by the name of Dr. Charles R. Solomon.  Dr. Solomon is considered one of the first leaders within the Christian community to develop practical discipleship tools that centered on the believers identity in Christ.  Dr. Phinney was among the first students of the next generation of teachers to carry forward this mission within the global community.  He studied directly under Dr. Solomon, Major Ian Thomas, Miles Stanford & a handful of others - promising to carry their work forward.  He not only has stayed dedicated to this mission, he has been blessed with forming the IFEL (International Fellowship of Exchanged Life), which unites Exchanged Life workers worldwide.  He is now considered one of the top leaders of the Exchanged Life community.

Why all the talk about worldview?

The ministry of IOM America has an unchangeable belief that the world must be viewed through the mind of Christ, which lives within the born-again believer (1 Cor. 2:16).  The ministry teaches that any worldview that is not from the indwelling mind of Christ is a twisted and tainted view.

There is global confusion when it comes to the meaning of "Christian Worldviews." Presently, there are over 300 religions that make claim to the name "Christian." We refer to these individuals and groups as "Christ-Followers."

Our institute reveals three simple worldviews:

  1. Secular - views that have no religious or spiritual basis

  2. Christ Follower - those who make claim to the name/teachings of Christ

  3. Christ-as-Life - a view of the world through the mind of Jesus Christ, who lives in, and through, the believer.

This is what makes our Institute unique!

What's up with the new Identity Matters Worldview Centers?

The worldview centers has been a part of the strategic plan of IFEL since its conception.  As the ministry forms IFEL Portals (active leaders that use our posted materials and media) - it is our goal to turn each of those portals into virtual or field Identity Matters Worldview Centers.  These centers will/are training centers for those who either want to be trained or to progressively train others. What is the Identity Matters Worldview Institute?

The Identity Matters Worldview Institute focuses on the Truth (Jesus), and the reality of the believer's identity in Christ. The world is then viewed through the mind of Christ that resides within authentic Christians. (1 Corinthians 2:16)

Because Jesus is Truth, we divert all students away from using Biblical truths as a way to perpetuate the wisdom of Christ and do not necessarily claim His indwelling Life. Most "Christian" worldview institutions tend to systematically explain the basic concepts of His Truth, existence, reality and freedom, but shy away from the Supremacy of His indwelling promise - living through the born-again believer. The object of their modality assert His facts or Truth statements, and the causes of His phenomena; only to enlarge the student's own knowledge of the Holy. This method-of-madness propels the "follower" to live their "Christian" life by way of external beliefs, which derails them from discovering true salvation.  Visit: Identity Matters Worldview Institute | Visit: IM Online School

Why does IOM differentiate between a "Christian" and being an Indwelt Believer?

This is the primary core message and calling of the ministry - to clear up the confusion between "followers" of Christ (Christian) and those who actually had a born-again experience and received the Holy Spirit (Life of Christ) into their lives (indwelt believer). The founder is passionate about this passage: "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. "Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'  (Mat 7:21-23)  Learn more: HERE
