I am grateful that God is fully aware of every detail in my life. Whether my concerns are what is taking place around me, what is happening to me, or what is brewing within me, He knows it all. I know that He is working even when I don’t see it, & this is comforting to my soul. He sees all of life. He sees loved ones near & far. And although this has been true for every day of my life, I haven’t always recognized or appreciated it. But I do now! The Truth of it keeps me going, & it keeps me grounded in the storms.

We are more likely to focus on the externals that affect us, than on the internals that change us. It’s easy to get caught up in “stuff,” both physical & relational. It’s normal & natural because, for the most part, life is demanding & often intense. Most of us feel responsible & want to be good stewards of what God has entrusted to us. But sometimes that breath of emotional fresh air is short-lived. The unknowns rear their heads & are on our doorstep again, uninvited…ready or not!

There is no physical tactic or object that gives us comfort when struggling with situations or emotions that feel beyond our capabilities. We can try substitutes to pacify but invariably, they fail as a permanent solution. I came face to face with this fact in my Bible study this week. With emotions running haphazardly in every direction, I read, “The battles we fight take place in our mind.” As I read scriptures & assessed my feelings (which are not the basis of Truth), I saw that EVERYTHING I thought, felt, & acted out, flowed from my mindset. And our minds are always set on something…truth or lies. What we put in them can determine the course of our lives because Satan desires for us to “be led astray from the simplicity & purity of devotion to Christ.” (2 Cor.11:3) We know this intellectually & nod our heads in agreement. But a lot of us would admit that, for the most part, we are still surprised & discouraged by defeat.

You are not alone. Every believer engages in mind wars. Wars end in victory or defeat. And either outcome is dependent on our choices. God knew this & He has provided for us in/through Christ. Those who have believed, & have received His life, are brand new in Him. (2 Cor 5:17) He can change our minds…literally. Fighting spiritual wars is not passive. It is actively engaging the Truth of the Word every day. Standing firm is progressive & builds by yielding to Christ moment by moment. “Set your mind on things above…do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus…If you abide in my Word, then you are disciples of Mine; you shall know the truth, & the truth shall make you free…whatever is true, honorable, pure, lovely, of good repute, if any excellence & if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things…gird your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (Col 3:2; Rom 12:2; Phil 2:5; John 8:31&32; Phil 4:8; I Peter 1;13)

Victory, or defeat, are choices we participate in. We make the choice to walk in the Spirit or to walk after the flesh. We choose to listen to the Spirit or to the enemy of our soul. We choose to renew our mind in Truth or be deceived by lies. We believe God will take care of us or, we cling to people & “stuff.” We are always yielding to one or the other. As the following poem espouses, in the moment is the time to “Call up the Truth.”

Call up the Truth

When you’re unsure

Call up the Truth

When you feel insecure

Call up the Truth

When you’re afraid

Call up the Truth

When you feel dismayed

Call up the Truth

When you need to know

Call up the Truth

The way He’ll show

Call up the Truth

To learn to love

Call up the Truth

For wisdom from above

He IS your Truth

He takes your fears

He IS your Truth

He wipes your tears

He IS your Truth

He makes you free

He IS your Truth

His love you’ll see

He IS your Truth

His voice you hear

He IS your Truth

His presence near

Go now in peace

His way is best

Safe in His arms

You know His rest
