You were in need of hope

You called to Me

I answered you

I set you free

My answer came

Through Life within

My sacrifice made

To free from sin

I saw your heart

I carried your sorrow

The Life I birthed

Brought strength for tomorrow

My gift to you

A precious seed

An answered prayer

A warrior indeed!

A sign of hope

Not one promise failed

A reminder to you

My Truth prevailed

You called him Joshua

I called him Son

I brought him home

A victory won

He served with courage

With wisdom, with might

He ran his race well

He finished the fight.

(Joshua 23:14; *subtitle from the movie Joshua)

I wrote this poem after the loss of our first grandbaby. The Lord reminded me that not only was the Biblical Joshua a leader, victorious in battle for God’s people, but he has also been referred to as a symbolic Christ-type figure. At the time of our loss, I had no plan to write anything. But the poem just “came” quickly, in a moment. My grief was interwoven with the legacy of Joshua’s 23 victories in battle, and with the provision of our ultimate victory in the Lord Jesus Christ. HE IS HOPE.
