IOM AMERICA would like to share with you a ministry we have chosen to prayerfully and financially support. Mercy Ministries is a non-profit organization for young women who face life-controlling issues. They provide residential programs free of charge designed to address the whole person: spiritual, physical and emotional. Their non-conventional approach to the underlying issues changes more than behavior; the Mercy Ministries program changes hearts and stops destructive cycles.

We would like to share with you Monica's story—you will quickly see why our ministry support this ministry.

Hi, my name is Monica. When I came to Mercy Ministries, I arrived very angry and broken. Most of my inner turmoil was displayed through sarcasm and a very apparent lack of tolerance for anyone I deemed a threat. In my case, most people were a threat to me due to my lack of ability to trust anyone and my fear of of rejection and abandonment. All these issues stemmed from many circumstances in my childhood that fed into my insecurities, alcoholic/addict father, angry mother, and many other dysfunctional factors. When I was 17 my mother left my father and shortly thereafter my father committed suicide. The pain of this proved to be far more than I was able to process so I stuffed the pain, along with all the other past hurts, and began a lifestyle of self indulgence and lawlessness. By the time I was 24 years old I found myself a cocaine addict and pregnant. Then, I found Mercy Ministries and God did an amazing work in my life.

In a short period of time, God showed me the truth to all the lies that the enemy had planted in me from a very young age. I began to recognize and understand my worth in Jesus Christ. The shame of all the sin I had engaged in during my life slowly began to melt away. I discovered that God means for me to have life and life more abundantly and that my past does not define who I am today because I am a new creation in Christ. My sins have been removed from me as far as the east is from the west because of the blood of Jesus.

I am raising my son, who was born without any effect from the life I used to participate it. I am blessed by him daily and learning more and more of the awesome power of God. Mercy Ministries helped me find who I am in Christ and I will never forget that. Today I am stronger than I have ever been and I realize that I do not have to settle for anything in my life because God really wants the absolute best for me! It is my commitment to seek what that best is daily, and pursue it with a vengeance. Mercy Ministries changed my life through the miraculous working power of Jesus! I tell myself daily, "It is for freedom that Christ has set you free, therefore stand firm and do not again let yourself be burdened by a yoke of slavery." Galatians 5:1 NIV
